Arcangues on the Basque Country's coast, between the Ocean and the Pyrenees, next to Biarritz

Adjacent to the cities of Biarritz, Bayonne and Saint Jean de Luz, Arcangues offers the peace and tranquillity of the countryside with the ocean only a stone's throw away. You'll savour the simple, rural way of life in this picturesque village, where tradition, fine cuisine and the local fête (festival) blend to make Arcangues “the perfect Basque village”.
The historic center is situated around the church, school, restaurant Auberge d’Achtal, the Théâtre de la Nature, a pink-painted fronton (a wall against which locals play the traditional ball game pelote basque) and the town hall. Since 1991, Arcangues is home to a top-level 18-hole golf course which occupies land surrounding the village which winds around the château belonging to the Arcangues family. Pelota is still revered in this region, and enthusiasts will find the perfect place to practise at the Trinquet.
You can also go horse-back riding and walking in the countryside around the village. New residents and tourists have given a boost to sports, tourism and culture here.
In the surrounding area, you can visit the beaches of the Basque coast: Biarritz, Anglet, Bidart, the coastal route at St Jean de Luz, the villages of Sare and Ainhoa, the Vallée de la Nive and the Spanish border.
